West Africa University Games 2026: UNIOSUN, FUTA, Lead City, UNILESA, PLASU, FUATO Win 34 Medals Without Gold

West Africa University Games

UNIOSUN’s 16-medal haul tops the golds-free list as the 15th West Africa University Games (OAU 2026) provisional table shows 34 podium finishes for six institutions

Six universities were still without a gold medal at the 15th West Africa University Games (OAU 2026) when the latest official table was published. Together they have taken 34 medals, 9 silver and 25 bronze.

The table was updated at 03:49 WAT on October 11 and covers 155 of the 160 events. Only results confirmed by the Technical Committee are counted.

UNIOSUN leads the way

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) is the strongest of the six. It sits 18th with 6 silver and 10 bronze, 16 medals in all. That equals the totals of eighth-placed University of Ilorin and ninth-placed University of Cape Coast, and it is more than nine schools ranked above it have won. Those nine include Delta State University, Abraka (11), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (12), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (14) and the University of Abuja (13). Under the table’s rule, ranking by gold first, silver second and bronze third, UNIOSUN’s depth of podium finishes cannot lift it past schools with even a single gold.

Ilesa, Lead City and Plateau State on the board

The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) is 19th with 1 silver and 6 bronze, 7 medals in all.

Lead City University (LCU) and Plateau State University (PLASU) share 20th place. Each has 1 silver and 1 bronze. The table’s tie rule means no school takes 21st.

Bronze only for FUATO and FUTA

The Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUATO) is 22nd with four bronze medals. The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) is 23rd with three.

By the numbers

The six schools account for about 7 percent of the 475 medals awarded so far. They hold 9 of the 151 silvers (6 percent) and 25 of the 169 bronzes (15 percent).

Standings still provisional

Five events are outside the table, so these placings could change. The table does not break medals down by sport, so the events behind each school’s results are not yet public.
