Yaba College of Technology, University of Lagos, Lagos State University and Lagos State University of Education have secured places in the semi-finals of the ongoing UNITECOL 2026 tournament after an action-packed Matchday Two.
The tournament delivered thrilling encounters, dramatic comebacks and standout individual performances as teams battled for qualification into the knockout stage.
Yaba Tech Defeat FCMFT to Advance
Yaba College of Technology sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory over Federal College of Marine and Fisheries Technology to book a place in the semi-finals.
The result confirmed Yaba Tech’s progression to the next round while ending FCMFT’s campaign in the competition.
From the opening whistle, Yaba Tech asserted dominance by controlling possession and creating several attacking opportunities in search of the opener.
Their persistence paid off when Opeyemi Adeola headed home from a well-delivered cross from the left flank to give Yaba Tech the lead.
The breakthrough further boosted the team’s confidence as they dictated the tempo of the game through midfield dominance and coordinated attacking play across the flanks.
Yaba Tech entered the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw the team intensify their attacking pressure, and their efforts were rewarded when Bamidele Mubarak unleashed a stunning volley from outside the 18-yard box to double the lead, sparking wild celebrations among teammates and supporters.
LASUED Complete Stunning Comeback Against FCE Akoka
In the second fixture of the day, Lagos State University of Education produced a remarkable comeback from two goals down to defeat Federal College of Education Akoka 3-2.
FCE Akoka started brightly and took the lead through Adeniyi Fawaz, who beat his marker before firing a superb strike into the net.
The goal reignited hopes of redemption for FCE Akoka following their opening-match defeat to LASU.
Moments later, FCE Akoka doubled their advantage, strengthening their hopes of securing a crucial victory and avoiding early elimination.
However, the momentum shifted when Afolabi Michael converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit for LASUED.
Michael continued to inspire his side and later grabbed the equaliser to restore hope for LASUED.
With the scores level, the intensity of the match increased as both sides launched relentless attacks in search of the decisive goal.
LASUED eventually completed the comeback with a late winner to seal a dramatic 3-2 triumph over FCE Akoka.
The result secured LASUED’s place in the semi-finals while confirming FCE Akoka’s exit from the tournament.
Group Standings After Matchday Two
In Group A, Lagos State University top the standings with three points, followed closely by Yaba College of Technology on the same number of points, while Federal College of Marine and Fisheries Technology remain without a point.
In Group B, University of Lagos lead the table with three points, ahead of Lagos State University of Education, while Federal College of Education Akoka sit bottom with zero points.
