The School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) has been crowned the 2026 FUTA Vice Chancellor’s Football Competition champion after defeating the defending champions, School of Computing, in a thrilling 3-2 victory.

The final was held at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Sports Complex.

The hard-fought match showcased determination, skill, and teamwork from both sides, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. SAAT’s triumph marks a historic win for the faculty, reflecting their commitment, discipline, and strong team spirit.

SAAT Triumphs Over School of Computing

SAAT’s victory came after an intense battle, with the footballers showing tactical brilliance and resilience to overcome the defending champions. The match was not only a display of athletic excellence but also an example of sportsmanship and competitive spirit that embodies FUTA football culture.

Earlier in the tournament, the School of Engineering secured third place by defeating the School of Physical Sciences, adding another highlight to the 2026 competition.

Vice Chancellor and Sports Officials Praise Teams

Speaking after the final, Professor Adenike Oladiji, Vice Chancellor of FUTA, congratulated the teams for reaching the finals. She described the match as highly entertaining and competitive, praising both SAAT and the School of Computing for their impressive skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

“It was a fantastic display of talent and commitment from both teams,” Professor Oladiji remarked.

Sports Director Michael Ajibua noted that the FUTA Sports Council, the organizers of the Vice Chancellor’s Cup, was established in 2002 to promote productive student engagement and athletic excellence. He congratulated the winners, encouraged graciousness in victory, and reminded the runners-up to stay resilient.

“We thank the Vice Chancellor for her unwavering support, which has made this annual event a great success,” Ajibua added.
