The Ezekiel Olotu Foundation basketball tournament is set to bring intense action to Lagos as six teams, including the Lagos Raptors and Ondo Raiders, prepare to compete on December 7-8, 2024. The event, aimed at promoting grassroots basketball, will be held at the Warriors Basketball Court in Ilupeju, Lagos.
Joining the Raptors and Raiders in the two-day showdown are Dodan Warriors, Possibility, New Song, and Warlords. Organizers promise a thrilling competition showcasing the skills, passion, and sportsmanship of talented players.
Speaking on the purpose of the tournament, the foundation’s spokesperson, Ojo Segun, highlighted its significance.
“This is a significant milestone for the foundation,” Segun stated. “For two days, we will host competitive basketball games to highlight talented players, their skills, and their passion. The event goes beyond competition. It’s about building connections, celebrating sportsmanship, and inspiring the next generation of athletes.”
Segun added that the tournament is part of the foundation’s broader vision to elevate grassroots sports in Nigeria, saying the future plans include organizing community outreach programs, basketball clinics, and providing scholarships for student-athletes.
“The Ezekiel Olotu Foundation aims to set a new standard in Nigeria’s grassroots sports ecosystem. We’re focused on developing talents, fostering unity, and promoting education through scholarships,” he said. “We’re also committed to organizing transparent and inclusive competitions that bring together elite players from across the country.”
The foundation has called on private-sector sponsors to support its initiatives and help grow basketball in Nigeria.
