History has repeated itself in Sweden as Nigeria’s Beyond Limits Football Academy successfully defended their Gothia Puma Trophy (B17) crown, defeating Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas 1-0 in a thrilling grand final at the Gamla Ullevi stadium.
The decisive breakthrough came from none other than the tournament’s most lethal marksman, Memud Olamillekan Frank, whose first-half goal ensured the Ikenne-based academy remained on top of the youth football world.
The victory caps off a breathtaking, unbeaten European campaign where the Nigerian side outclassed top academies from across the globe.
The Road to the Final: Edging Out Right to Dream
Beyond Limits’ path to successive final appearances was anything but simple. In a highly anticipated semifinal clash on Friday, the defending champions had to square off against Ghana’s legendary Right to Dream academy—a fixture widely regarded as the “real final” of the knockout stage.
In a grueling, high-intensity tactical battle at the SKF Arena, Beyond Limits displayed champion-level resilience. The boys dug deep to edge past their West African rivals with a 2-1 victory, booking their spot in the grand final and setting up a repeat of the 2025 championship match against ASEC Mimosas.
Frank Strikes Early to Seal the Crown
With the championship on the line against ASEC, Beyond Limits stuck to their signature high-pressing philosophy. It didn’t take long for the pressure to yield results.
In the 17th minute, tournament sensation Memud Olamillekan Frank broke the deadlock. Capitalizing on a sharp offensive transition, Frank calmly slotted the ball home to give Beyond Limits a 1-0 lead.
The goal marked Frank’s 9th goal of the tournament, putting an exclamation point on an unforgettable individual campaign that cemented him as the tournament’s undisputed top scorer.
Following the early strike, ASEC Mimosas threw everything forward in search of an equalizer. However, the Beyond Limits defensive unit put on a masterclass in game management, absorbing late pressure to preserve the clean sheet.
Back-to-Back Kings of Gothenburg
With the final whistle, the Nigerian side erupted into wild celebrations. Beyond Limits concludes the 2026 Gothia Cup with an astonishing record: five victories, one draw, 30 goals scored, and a mere one goal conceded throughout the entire tournament.
By successfully retaining the Gothia Puma Trophy, Olumide Ajibolade’s squad has firmly established itself as one of the most elite youth football institutions on the planet.
