The event, organized to commemorate International Students’ Day, will hold from November 13 to 17, 2025, at the indoor sports hall of the Akure Sports Complex.
Other participating institutions include the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), University of Medical Sciences, Ondo (UNIMED), Achievers University, Owo, Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo, and Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa (OAUSTECH).
The tournament is expected to showcase the best of basketball talent across Ondo State’s tertiary institutions.
Speaking ahead of the games, Director of the Ondo State Student Athlete Development Office (OSSADO), Olabode James, said the initiative aims to discover and nurture young sporting talents within the state.
“The tournament is designed to identify promising players, groom them to stardom, and prepare them to represent Ondo State and Nigeria at national and international levels,” he stated.
The championship is part of a broader student-focused agenda championed by the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Kevin Solomon Olaolu (KSO), who emphasized the vital role of sports and education in shaping today’s youth.
He also expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for approving the event, adding that “indeed, our ease has come in the student community and Ondo State in general.”
