AKURE, NigeriaFALAYE Oluwatobi, popularly known as FAME, has expressed his intention to organise the maiden School of Earth and Minerals Sciences (SEMS) Olympics and improve representation for student-athletes in sports beyond football and basketball.

Tobi, who is contesting for the office of Director of Sports for the Nigerian Association of Earth and Minerals Science Students (NAEMSS), disclosed this in an interview with Sportxvibe.com.ng ahead of the elections scheduled for Thursday, May 14.

“My aspiration is for male and female student-athletes to have equality when it comes to sports, especially in track and field events,” he said.

The 200-level student of the Department of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RSGIS) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) said his priority is to ensure that student-athletes involved in table tennis, chess, athletics, and other sports are given enough opportunities to showcase their talents.

“This will not be limited to those who play football and basketball alone, but also those who can run, play table tennis, chess, and other sports, so they can be given the opportunity to showcase their skills,” he added.

He also pledged to ensure that no student-athlete is sidelined because of the dominance of football on campus.

“I want to ensure that students are not sidelined and that attention is not only focused on football, which is the major sport in FUTA. We will try new things, and there will be a SEMS Olympics,” he said.
