Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has praised Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their resilience and commitment as they booked a place in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

Dikko made the commendation following the team’s hard-fought semifinal victory over arch-rivals Senegal. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to secure a fifth consecutive continental title when they face Mali in today’s final at the Palais des Sports, Treichville, in Abidjan.

“We are proud of our girls. They have shown bravery, resilience, and the spirit of true champions,” Dikko said. “They have proven to be worthy ambassadors of Nigeria, and we are optimistic that they will return home with the trophy.”

The Sports Commission chairman also lauded head coach Rena Wakama for her leadership and urged the team to maintain their high level of performance in the final clash.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to sports development, Dikko noted that the Federal Government recognizes the unifying power of sports in Nigeria and will continue to invest in youth through various sporting programs.

“The Commission remains committed to supporting all our national teams to ensure they represent the country with pride and achieve success on the global stage,” he added.
