2nd Cycling Kano holds December 12

Following the success of its maiden edition, Cycling Africa, in collaboration with the Kano State Government, has announced that the second edition of Cycling Kano will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2026, in Kano.

The event, which will be held under the theme, “Water is Life,” aims to promote cycling while raising awareness about access to clean water, water conservation and the impact of climate change.

The inaugural edition in 2025 attracted more than 1,000 cyclists and enthusiasts from across the country, marking a major milestone for competitive cycling in Northern Nigeria.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Africa, Bamidele Adeleye, said in a statement released on Tuesday that the 2026 edition would build on the success of the debut event with expanded competitive categories, improved route safety and greater emphasis on grassroots talent discovery.

Adeleye commended Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for supporting the initiative, noting that the partnership demonstrated the potential of sports to promote youth engagement, economic inclusion and healthy living.

“Following the remarkable performances we witnessed in 2025—from professional cyclists like Isa Momoh to young talents like Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar—we are eager to provide an even bigger platform for athletes to excel while championing a cause that affects us all,” he said.

He added that the event would go beyond competition to promote environmental awareness and community participation.

“The second edition of Cycling Kano represents our commitment to building a lasting cycling culture in Northern Nigeria, and this year we ride with purpose,” Adeleye said.

According to him, the theme, “Water is Life,” is intended to encourage conversations about clean water access, conservation and the effects of climate change on urban and rural communities.

He added that the race will start from the historic Emir’s Palace, traverse key routes across Kano metropolis and finish at a location celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Adeleye said that the organisers would also introduce advocacy activities along the route, including water conservation awareness points and collaborations with environmental and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) organisations.

He said a registration portal would be unveiled in November to enable interested participants to sign up for the event.

The organisers expect the competition to attract cyclists, cycling clubs, sports enthusiasts and families from Kano and other parts of the country.

The event is expected to further promote competitive cycling in Northern Nigeria while showcasing the sport’s potential as a platform for healthy living, environmental sustainability and community development.
