World Relays: We are going to give our best — Okon-George

Two-time African Championships bronze medallist Patience Okon-George has expressed optimism ahead of the World Athletics Relays, stating that Team Nigeria is determined to deliver a strong performance.

Okon-George said the competition presents a significant opportunity for the team to secure qualification for the World Athletics Championships later this year.

“This race means a lot to me and the team. We are going there to give our best, and with that, we believe we will qualify for the World Championships later this year,” she said.

Her optimism is shared by Victor Ime, who described the event as a crucial moment for the squad.

“It’s a big task for us. We made an attempt in Calabar and ran 3:04, but this is another big opportunity. With the team we have now, I believe we can secure qualifications,” he said.

The Nigerian contingent features a blend of youth and experience, with athletes such as Enaruna Anita Itohan, Badmus Gafari Atanda, Ezeakor Chidera, Emmanuel James Taiwo, Ojeli Ifeanyi Emmanuel and Okon-George expected to play key roles.

Others on the roster include Nathaniel Samson, Adeyemi Sikiru Adewale, Sampson Victor Ime, Godwin Tejiri, Jecinter Lawrence, Chukwuka Obi Jennifer and Omokwe Maria Thompson.

The youngest member of the team, Jecinter Lawrence, also expressed excitement at the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
