Fourteen teams will participate at the maiden basketball championship, tagged: ‘Governor’s cup’ in Adamawa, the organiser has announced.
The fourteen teams which are made up of eight male teams and six female teams will trade tackles among each other at the indoor sports hall of the Federal College of Education,Yola from the 2nd of October, 2023 to 8th October,2023.
According to the organiser, BELSIM Sports Consult, it said the championship will avail discovering and mentoring of talents in Adamawa state.
“Adamawa State known as the Land of Beauty is blessed with abundant talents in almost every sector of human endeavor especially the sporting sector.
“However,it is quite disheartening to see that most of these talents remain untapped due to lack of proper mentorship and appropriate platform to harness this talents and nurture them into becoming professionals/ Champions to benefit their immediate communities, the state and Nation at large,” the organiser said in a statement.
The organiser called on the state governor Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to grace the finals of the Championship as the special guest of honor to present the trophy to our Champions.
BELSIM Sports Consult added that the championship will help create awareness amongst youths on the opportunities that abound in engaging in sporting activities aside being a tool for social cohesion, physical fitness and fighting youths restiveness.
“We also provide platforms for youth engagement by organising talk shows and sporting championships with the sole purpose of engaging youths to discover themselves and get the appropriate mentorship and linkage for future development of their skills.
“We wish to make the Championship an annual event in the state that our teaming youths look forward to and also take advantage of the opportunity it provides to redirect their energies by engaging in a productive venture that occupies their minds and has benefits for them, their immediate communities and the state at large.” It reads.
