The defending champions of the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) Students’ Union Government (YASUG) League, the School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS), have set their sights on winning the maiden Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA) Cup.
The weeklong tournament kicked off on Friday at the Dr. Philip Yaba Sports Centre, featuring eight schools across male and female categories.
Speaking ahead of their highly anticipated Monday fixture against the School of Technology, Opeyemi Alagbala, who emerged as the highest goalscorer in the previous YASUG League, said the SMBS team is determined to claim a historic double this season.

“This cup won’t be easy, but we’ve built a strong team spirit in SMBS,” Alagbala said. “Everyone is giving their best, and we’re fully focused. We believe we can go all the way and lift the trophy together.”
The star forward emphasized that SMBS will approach every match with focus and respect for their opponents.
“There are a lot of strong teams in this competition, so I won’t single out any. We’re taking it one match at a time and respecting every opponent,” he added.
Alagbala also commended the YASUG Sports Directorate for organizing the tournament, which he described as a platform to promote unity, sportsmanship, and campus pride.
“I appreciate the Sports SUG for all their hard work in making this tournament happen,” he said.
DSA’s Cup: A New Era for Campus Sports
The DSA’s Cup, which runs from November 21 to 27, 2025, is the first competition organized in honour of the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Alhaji Alaba Olalekan Shakurudee. The competition features eight schools, including:
- School of Environment
- School of Technology
- School of Liberal Studies
- School of Engineering
- School of Part-Time Studies
- School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS)
- School of Art
- School of Science
The tournament includes both male and female categories, a first for Yabatech’s inter-school sports competitions.
