The President of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and Honourable Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, OFR, has expressed profound condolences to former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua and the families of two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.

In a statement released on Monday, Mr. Edun said: “On behalf of the entire Nigerian Boxing family, I express my deepest condolences to our national treasure Anthony Joshua and the families of the two individuals who passed away. The loss of life is always deeply distressing, and our thoughts and prayers are with you, Anthony, and the affected families at this difficult time.

As a boxing community, we pray for your speedy recovery and that the souls of the dearly departed rest in peace.”

The Nigerian Boxing Federation also called for compassion and solidarity within the sporting community as Joshua recovers from the emotional toll of the incident.

Anthony Joshua, a British-Nigerian boxing superstar, rose to global fame after clinching the IBF heavyweight title in 2016, later unifying the WBA, WBO, and IBO belts.

Born to Nigerian parents, Joshua has maintained close ties to his homeland, frequently expressing pride in his heritage and contributing to youth and sports development initiatives.

He remains one of the most celebrated figures in world boxing and an enduring source of inspiration for young Nigerian athletes.
