THE male football team of University of Lagos, UNILAG defeated Babcock University’s football team, 4-2 at the Nigerian College League, NCL friendly season opener played on Tuesday, January 16 inside the Unilags sports complex.
The match, which lived up to expectations, re-ignited the passion of collegiate sports as students came in droves to cheer up the players.

At the blast of the referee’s whistle, players’ adrenaline began to rush as they were in quest to dominate possessions.
But Unilag’s forward, Doyinsola Omotosho broke the deadlock as he gave his team the lead after a brilliant finish that saw the ball at the back of the net.
Again, after a series of displays of football artistries, Omotosho got a brace to double the lead of his team, putting Babcock to do a lot of work.
The first half saw the Unilag team dominate possessions and mount pressure on their opponents via attacks which paved the way for the third goal through Nsikabasi Prince.
Undeterred by the 3 goals deficit, Babcock reduced the deficit via Olateju’s sublime effort at the death of the first half which silenced the roaring crowd of the host team.
At the resumption of the second half, Babcock increased the tempo of the game as they switched from being defensive to offensive. The tactical change bore fruit as they were awarded a penalty spotkick.
Babcock’s Emmanuel Aghahowa stepped up to take the penalty, sending the goalkeeper to the wrong place to record the second goal for his team
But Unilag forward Omotosho benefitted from a square pass to increase his team’s lead. That goal earned him a hatrick.
The match ended 4-2 in favor of Unilag.
