Scrabble Championship: Unilag student Enoch Nwali emerges winner, to receive National Green Jacket

A 400 level student of University of Lagos, UNILAG Enoch Nwali has emerged as the winner of the 2024  Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship hosted in Ogun state.

Nwali who is the reigning African Scrabble Champion deployed his grit and word power in the three-day championship to amass 20 wins, a draw and lost six games to garner a +1220 cumulative points from 28 rounds of games.

Nwali who represented Team Lagos.Enock Nwali will be decorated with the prestigious NSF National Green Jacket on Sunday, April 21  during the Awards and Gala Night for winning the Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship.

The second position was occupied by his team mate, John Aiyedun who claimed 19 victories, 9 losses and +701 points.

Team Lagos expressed its dominance at the championship as another University of Lagos (UNILAG), final-year Pharmacy student and current West African Scrabble Champion, Doko Oluwatimilehin secured the 3rd position.

Doko grabbed the final podium spot with 18 wins, 10 defeats and +1057 cumulative points.

PANASA President Cup winner and 4th seed Godwin Victor, took the 4th place with 18 wins and +779 was his cumulative spread. 

While Former World Champion and two time African Scrabble Champion, Wellington Jighere  completes the first five with +720 points from 18 wins.

This concluded championship is the 1st of 4 events at the NSF National Scrabble Festival “Gateway 2024”, sponsored and hosted by the Ogun State Government.
