Bayero University, Kano (BUK) on Monday began their quest for gold medal with a dominant 55–11 victory over Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai (IBBUL) in their opening female basketball at the ongoing 27th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA 2025), taking place at the University of Jos.
The standout performer of the game was Princess Zaki, who delivered a sensational display by scoring 38 of BUK’s 55 points, wowing spectators with her accuracy, agility, and on-court leadership.
Supporting her brilliance were team captain Theresa David, along with Cherry, Fatima, and Eunice, whose teamwork and tactical discipline ensured BUK’s total control from start to finish.
The electrifying game drew loud cheers from spectators and fellow universities, with many describing it as one of the most exciting performances of the NUGA 2025 tournament so far.
BUK’s Director of Sports, Professor Rabiu Mohammed, praised the players after the emphatic win, commending their resilience and teamwork.
The Head Coach, Sunusi Shuaibu (Badway), expressed delight over the team’s dominant showing, attributing the result to “hard work, discipline, and proper preparation.”
He added that the victory had boosted the team’s morale ahead of their next clash against Niger Delta University (NDU).
In her post-match remarks, Princess Zaki, who was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game, credited the team’s success to unity and determination.
“We are determined to keep pushing until we win the gold medal for BUK. Today’s victory is just the beginning,” she said confidently.
With spirits high and confidence soaring, the BUK Female Basketball Team has sent a powerful message to all contenders — they are in Jos not just to compete, but to dominate.
