Zenith Emperor FC player Okunola Lekan brace and Ahmed Ismail lone goal piped their counterpart in the same group A1 Iganmu FC in the match day three of the 2020/2021 Nation-Wide League One (NLO) which ended 3-2 at Remo Stadium.
The emphatic match between the two local teams which drew a lot of attention saw an early goal in the third minutes after Zenith Emperor FC winger Ahmed Ismail capitalized on the error of his opponent Iganmu FC defense to give his team the lead.
Every effort to equalize in the first half proved abortive as the Zenith Emperor FC quartet in the defense tamed the claws of a former top flight league player Sunday Adetunji who exercised both his muscular and football experience to score a goal.
But a sigh of relief simmered in the mind of the Iganmus’ as Sunday Adetunji restored parity to level the score, two minutes after the commencement of the second half.
It was a surprise to coach Yemi Olanrewaju’s fondly called “Yema” and his boys three minutes after they leveled the score as Zenith Emperor FC attacker Okunola Lekan buried the ball into the net after he intercepted the string of passes by the Iganmu’s defenders.
The dusts of shouts and cheers were yet to be settled for the second goal before Lekan scored the third goal, totaling four goals he has scored in three matches he had played since the beginning of the 2020/2021 season.
After mounting pressure, Iganmu FC player Tunde Bright halved the deficit five minutes before the end of the match. But it ended 3-2 in favor of Zenith Emperor FC.
The victory put the Uwam Stanly tutored boys on the second of the log with 7 points, two points adrift Destiny FC who sit on the first position.
Speaking with Lekan, he felt elated over his brace, admitting that the match was not stroll in the park for his team, adding that he want to emerge as the top goal scorer of the season.
“I feel greet and I pray for more goal. I desire to become the highest goal scorer. With the support of team I believe I can do. It was not easy for my team but we did not give up and kept pushing till the final whistle and if we continue like this we get to the top of the league.” He said.
