Odusanya Ademola and Olaniyan Adesewa have emerged as champions of the Lagos State University of Technology Tennis Club, LTC Junior tennis clinic tournament in the U 12 boys and girls’ categories respectively held at the institution’s lawn tennis court in Ikorodu campus.
Also, Kolade and Adesinmibo won in the U 10 boys and girls categories respectively while Semilore and Korede finished as runner ups in the U 12 boys and girls categories respectively and Emmanuel emerged as the Red balls winner.
The 3-days tournament which featured 33 kids witnessed the final in the U 12 female category between Adesewa and Semilore which ended 9-7 and 7-4 straight win in favor of Adesewa while in the male category, it was between Ademola and Korede which finished 7-3 and 7-5 in a straight win in favor Ademola.
Ademola, in an interview, said that the tournament was not a stroll in the park but felt elated for emerging as the winner.
“I feel very good about winning the tournament, it was very tough and challenging but I was able to win and very proud of myself. I see myself becoming a very good player in the future, and win more tournament.” He said.
Also, the winner of the U 12 girls category, Adesewa thanked the organizer of the tournament, saying that she would more laurels in the future.
“I feel very excited winning U 12 girls category in LTC and I see myself winning more of this in future. Also, I thank the organizer for all of this.” She said.
Coach, Firstshot Tennis Academy, Olaniyan Adeyemi appreciated the president of LTC, Alhaji Sanni Mojeed and members of the club, saying that they gave their support to ensure that the tournament started and ended well.
“I really want to appreciate the president of the club in person of Alhaji Mojeed Sanni, he has been very supportive, Alhaji Olufawo, the list is endless, those who I am not able to call your name, you all have been supportive especially when it comes to tennis development.” He said.
He added that the tournament which started in 2018 was aimed at catching kids young in the game of tennis and also unearthing their talents, adding that players have emerged from the tournament to play in national competitions.
“Tennis is a beautiful game, what this program does is to keep the kids busy, take them away from vices. Here at LASUTECH is where you can bring your kids and ensure that they will safe. The academy has produced players who have played in the national levels, we have Ademola Ogunsanya, Adesewa Olaniyan and by the grace of God, this year, we are rolling out kids who represent the club and the academic.
“And we are planning another tennis clinic tournament which is going toward the end of the year by the grace of God around November or July after their third term.” He said.
