Lagos Grassroots Cup Day One: Wusu FC, Alimosho FA earn victories as debutant MDS 360 hold draw against Midas FC

The 2023 edition of the Lagos Grassroots Cup began footballing actions on Tuesday as clubs at the grassroot level opened hostilities among themselves at the Abesan mini stadium in Lagos state.

The tournament which has passed the test of time since it kickoffed over 33 years ago brought to life its purpose of availing the platform for budding footballers to express their talents.

Daring the odds of the sunny weather condition that shined on them, the defending champion Wusu FA continued their dominance after they pipped Ashton FC, 2-1 in the opening match.

In the same view, the second match was between debutant MDS 360 who forced a draw against Midas FC 2 -2 in a nail-biting match.

The last match witnessed spirited footballing artistries between Alimosho FA versus Wewe FA. The breathtaking match ended 4-2 in favor of Alimosho FC who leveraged on the numerical disadvantage of their opponent.

In his reaction after the match, the head coach, Wewe FA Rabiu Oladimeji blamed his team’s poor performance on the numerical disadvantage of his team.

“The match was fine but because of the red card we got in the first half, oy destabilised the team but we still tried and I think next match, we can play good football.

To the head coach, Alimosho FA, Adeyemi Adekoya,  he was optimistic his team will perform better than their first match.

I am very satisfied with the game but we still need to learn more because we played against a short one, we were supposed to score 5 goals. 

“For my next match, we will get our 3 points,” he said.
