The curtain of the Higher Institution Football League, HIFL is drawing closer as the final of the 2022 edition between Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE Dazzlers and Kogi State University, KSU Steelers is set to hold on Saturday, September 24, 2022 by 3pm.
The road to the final began with 38 teams in six groups who slugged it out among themselves to secure a spot in the next round which had 12 teams before it snowballed into 4 teams; FUOYE dazzlers playing against KSU steelers while NUGA champions University of Ilorin, UNIIlorin warriors will face University of Nigeria, UNN Lions in the third-place match.
The hurdles of this tournament kicked off in Group A in a Kano state derby between BUK Stallions and YUSMUK Ravens on the opening day in June 22. The group had ATBU Bravehearts, UNIJOS Highlanders, and KASU Crocs and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.
Group B housed debutant Al-Hikmah University who set the tone against KSU Steelers. IBBU Ranchers, UAM Tillers and 2022 NUGA champions, UNILORIN Warriors in Group B for a spot in the knock-out stages of the tournament.
Matchday 1 in group C witnessed a cracker in the Coastal region when LASU Blazers played against UI Pioneers on opening day in Lagos. Also, Ibadan derby between UI Pioneers and Lead City Gladiators, headlined the matches.
UNILAG Marines, ABUAD stars OAU Giants, TASUED, EKSU, FUTA Tigers, and UNIOSUN were in group D.
