University of Jos (UNIJOS) football captain, George Mendez Amila, remains optimistic about his team’s chances of bouncing back after their opening loss at the 11th Federation of African University Sports (FASU) Games.
The tournament is being held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Sports Centre.
UNIJOS kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Nkumba University, failing to score in their Group B clash.

Amila, who was forced off the field due to injury just 15 minutes into the first half, expressed disappointment with the outcome, citing a lapse in concentration as the key reason for their loss.
“We controlled the game for the first fifteen minutes, but lost focus, which cost us. It’s part of football,” Amila remarked.
He also acknowledged Nkumba University’s efficiency in taking their chances, while UNIJOS failed to capitalize on their own opportunities.
“We had our chances but didn’t take them, while our opponents made the most of theirs. It’s either you win or you lose in football,” he added.
Despite the setback, Amila is confident that his team will rebound in their next match, stressing the importance of staying positive and focused.
“I believe in my players. This was just a bad day for us, but we are going to win our next matches,” he assured.
