Former African Under-19 Champion Rises to Elite Status

David Ojih, the former African Under-19 Scrabble Champion, has achieved another historic milestone by becoming the youngest player ever to reach the Expert (EXP) rank in Africa.

At just 21 years old, David’s rise through the ranks has been nothing short of remarkable, marking him as one of the brightest stars in African Scrabble.

In 2025, he finished on the podium at major tournaments across Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana, while also capturing Silver and Gold medals at the Nigeria National Sports Festival.

At the World English Scrabble Players Association Championship (WESPAC) 2025, David went a step further, winning one of the high-profile side events — a testament to his growing international stature.

David’s transition from youth Scrabble to the elite level has been swift and inspiring.
Within just a year, he moved from being the continent’s youth champion to finishing 6th overall at the African Scrabble Championship (ASC) in Kigali.

By year’s end, David recorded an impressive average rating of 2027 over 90 games, placing him firmly among Africa’s elite Scrabble players.

Following his elevation to the Expert rank, all tournament directors across the continent have been mandated to refer to him in all official tournament records as David Ojih (EXP).

The President of the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), Adekoyejo Adegbesan congratulated him for this exceptional achievement.
