Nigerian sprinter Enoch Adegoke, alongside prominent student-athletes; Hakeem Onitolo, and David Olomuk0ro have been announced as the headline speakers for the inaugural webinar hosted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in collaboration with the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA).

The event, themed: ‘Academic and athletics; balance for a long term success’ part of the FISU Student Ambassador Programme, aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing and inspiration.

According to Olasubomi Ogundele, a FISU student ambassador, she shared details about the webinar on LinkedIn, highlighting its focus on the experiences of student-athletes.

“This session will feature amazing speakers sharing their journeys as student-athletes, offering valuable insights on balancing academics and sports,” Ogundele noted.

The webinar is scheduled to take place on January 30, 2025, at 7 PM and is open to participants via registration through the link: Webinar Registration.

This virtual event promises to be a valuable opportunity for students, athletes, and enthusiasts to engage with inspiring stories and practical advice from accomplished individuals in the world of university sports.

Brief about the speakers

Enoch Adegoke:

Enoch Adegoke is one of Nigeria’s brightest track and field talents, renowned for his exceptional speed and determination. Born with an innate passion for athletics, Adegoke’s journey to the global stage has been marked by consistent growth and remarkable achievements.

Adegoke gained international attention during the 2018 Commonwealth Games, held in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, where he competed alongside some of the world’s best sprinters. The Games, notable for being the first major multi-sport event to feature an equal number of events for male and female athletes, provided a competitive platform for Adegoke to showcase his talent.

Since then, Adegoke has continued to shine in sprints, representing Nigeria in various prestigious competitions, including Tokyo 2020 Olympics, winning the 100m at the Nigerian Championships in 10.00s. Known for his powerful starts and efficient strides, he remains a key figure in Nigerian athletics, inspiring younger generations with his discipline and success.

Off the track, Adegoke is celebrated for his humility and dedication to balancing sports with academics, a trait he frequently shares with aspiring athletes. His story is one of perseverance, focus, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Hakeem Onitolo: First-Class Student and Football Star

Onitolo exemplifies the balance of academic excellence and athletic prowess, emerging as a shining star in Nigerian university sports. A graduate of the University of Lagos, Onitolo earned a first-class degree in Estate Management and Valuation in the 2022/2023 academic session, a feat that highlights his dedication both on and off the field.

Onitolo’s football journey is equally impressive. He participated in the Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) twice, in 2021 and 2022, showcasing his skills on a national platform. Beyond HIFL, Onitolo’s dominance in intra-university tournaments is notable.

He played in the Deans’ Cup, winning the competition three times. His exceptional performance earned him the titles of Highest Goal Scorer and Best Player on two occasions. In addition, Onitolo excelled in the HOD Games, winning twice and clinching awards as the Highest Goal Scorer and Best Player once each.

Onitolo’s story is one of resilience and excellence, blending academic achievement with sporting success. His journey serves as an inspiration to student-athletes striving to excel in both their studies and their passions.

David Olomukoro: Scholar and Basketball Star

Olomukoro is a shining example of excellence in both academics and athletics. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) student at Nile University of Nigeria, David also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, where he graduated at the top of his class.

Beyond academics, David has made his mark as one of the standout players and leaders of the Nile Spartans, the university’s highly successful and nationally recognized basketball team. His leadership and skill on the court have been instrumental in the team’s numerous achievements.

David’s talent attracted several sports scholarship offers from colleges and universities in the United States to play basketball. However, he chose to remain at Nile University, demonstrating his loyalty and commitment to his alma mater while continuing to excel academically and athletically.

With his strong academic foundation, athletic achievements, and leadership qualities, David Olomukuro is a role model for student-athletes, showcasing that it is possible to achieve greatness both in sports and academics.
