The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has donated footballs to Igbobi College, Lagos, through the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) as part of the CAF School Football Development Initiative, a continent-wide programme designed to promote grassroots football, encourage physical activity among students, and nurture future football talents across Nigeria and Africa.
The CAF School Football Development Initiative is a continent-wide programme designed to strengthen grassroots football in African schools by providing essential equipment and creating opportunities for structured competitions.
Through the initiative, CAF aims to integrate football more effectively into school environments, helping students benefit from the physical, mental, and social advantages of regular sporting activity while also nurturing the next generation of African football talent.
Across Africa, the initiative forms a key part of CAF’s long-term youth development strategy. By working with national federations, CAF seeks to identify and develop young players early, expand participation in school football, and promote values such as teamwork, discipline, leadership, and healthy living.
In Nigeria, the programme is coordinated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), which distributed CAF footballs to the 36 State Football Associations and the Federal Capital Territory for onward delivery to selected schools.
To mark the presentation in Lagos, LSFA Vice Chairman Dotun Coker, an alumnus of the institution, handed over the symbolic CAF footballs to the Principal of Igbobi College, Joseph Oyewale Adediji.
Speaking during the presentation, Coker noted that the donation aligns with a broader vision of developing students not only academically but also physically, emotionally, and socially through the transformative power of football.
Igbobi College has a proud tradition of producing outstanding footballers, including Andrew Uwe, Golden Ajebor, Mike Dominic, Tunde Martins, Joseph Dosu, Ibitimi Collins, and Jonathan Akpoborie.
In his remarks, Principal Adediji thanked the Lagos State Football Association for selecting the school as one of the beneficiaries in the first phase of the CAF School Football Development Initiative.
He noted that the donation would further encourage students to participate in sports while promoting discipline, teamwork, and healthy living.
