The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) has applauded Liberia as the country prepares to host the 2026 National Scrabble Championship, a major event expected to bring together the nation’s top Scrabble players.
The championship will take place from March 14 to March 16, 2026, at K-Plaza in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, where competitors will battle for national glory and a share of the LRD 563,000 prize pool.
According to organizers, the tournament aims to further strengthen Scrabble development in Liberia while showcasing the growing popularity of the mind sport across the country.
The event is proudly sponsored by Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, whose support is being hailed as a significant contribution to the advancement of Scrabble and youth-focused educational initiatives in Liberia.
In addition to the competition, the championship will promote the “Scrabble to Buchanan Schools” initiative. The program is designed to introduce Scrabble to students in Buchanan, encouraging vocabulary development, critical thinking, and strategic skills through the game.
PANASA noted that national competitions such as Liberia’s championship are vital to the continued growth of Scrabble in Africa. The association expressed confidence that the 2026 edition will help expand grassroots participation while strengthening Liberia’s presence in the continental Scrabble community.
