Year 6 Riverbank student Jeremiah Edem has made his school proud after helping Dazzle FC win the gold medal at the just-concluded Isupa league, held at the American International School, Lagos.
Standing firm at the goalpost, Jeremiah’s outstanding saves and calm presence were key to his team’s championship victory.
Speaking in an interview with sportxvibe.com.ng after the thrilling tournament, the young goalkeeper couldn’t hide his joy.
“I feel good — I feel like we’re on top of the world,” he said with a big smile.
Jeremiah shared that his love for goalkeeping started early when he discovered his natural talent for quick reactions and ball control.
“I chose to be a goalkeeper because I was good at catching the ball and my reactions were good. That’s why I wanted to be a goalkeeper.”
He looks up to world-class goalkeepers such as Emiliano Martínez, João Gafias, and Diego Costa, learning from their confidence and commitment on the pitch.
His success didn’t come by luck — it came from discipline and consistent practice.
“I go for training every day,” Jeremiah said proudly. “I play football every Saturday and focus on school Monday to Friday.”
Jeremiah also credits his family for standing by him through every stage of his journey.
“My parents support me 100%, especially my mom. She gave me all the encouragement I needed during this competition.”
When asked about his future ambitions, the young champion spoke with confidence.
“Yes, I want to become a footballer,” he said. “I want to go to Brazil — they have very good people, and having fun is quite easy there.”
Before wrapping up, Jeremiah expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who made his victory possible.
“Thank you and God bless my coach, my teammates, and my parents. And I thank God for blessing my body and my hands to help me win this tournament.”
