Team Nigeria faced early exits in the sprint and quarter-mile events at the ongoing 2025 FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, with four athletes failing to advance past the heats.
In the women’s 400m heat 1, Nigeria’s Chioma Christabel Offor clocked 58.91s to finish sixth. The heat was won by Charlee Nicole Crawford (USA) in 53.25s, followed by Barbora Maliova (Czech Republic) and Natasha Grace Harrison (GBR).
Nigeria’s Salim Zubairu Bello did not finish in the men’s 400m heat, while South Africa’s Tumisang Shezi led the race with 47.08s.
In the women’s 100m heat 2, Nigeria’s Toafikat Morenikeji Sulaimon finished seventh with 12.49s. Austria’s Georgia Harris won in 11.56s.
Nigeria’s Precious Oluwakayode Aina placed fifth in men’s 100m heat 8, clocking 11.47s behind South Africa’s Kyle Zinn who won in 10.33s.
Attention now turns to Arji Patrick Genka in the men’s 1500m and Aishat Nna Muhammed in the women’s 800m, both set to compete in their respective heats today.
