FASU Games: Abbey’s Brace Earns Nkumba University Victory Over UNIJOS, Tops Group B

Nkumba University of Uganda kicked off their FASU Games campaign with a 2-0 victory over Nigeria’s University of Jos (UNIJOS), thanks to a brace from standout player Kavuwa Abbey in the Group B opener.

In the second match of Group B at the African collegiate tournament, Nkumba University dominated possession early on, displaying impressive coordination and passing from midfield to create pressure on UNIJOS.

Despite the intense onslaught, UNIJOS managed to withstand the early waves of attack with solid defensive play.

However, Nkumba finally broke through when Abbey latched onto a precise pass, slotting the ball into the back of the net, giving his team a 1-0 lead by the end of the first half.

The second half saw Nkumba University continue to assert their dominance, maintaining control of the game. Although UNIJOS managed to create a few opportunities, they were unable to convert them into goals.

Late in the second half, Abbey struck again, securing his second goal of the match and sealing a 2-0 win for Nkumba University. This victory placed them at the top of Group B.

Earlier in the tournament, Ghana’s University of Development Services (UDS) narrowly defeated UNILAG Marines 1-0.

Speaking with *Sportsvibe.com.ng*, Abbey expressed his excitement following the win, crediting the team’s success to the motivation provided by their vice-chancellor.

“I feel very good. This is my first time participating in this tournament, and we worked really hard for this. Our vice-chancellor promised us a lot if we win, and we’re determined to make it happen,” Abbey said.
