No fewer than 358 athletes will represent Nigeria across twenty-five sports disciplines at the 13th African Games taking place in Accra, Ghana.
The continental multi-sports showpiece will officially kick off on March 8 to 23 in three Ghanaian cities – Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.
But some preminalaries ahead of the official commencement date began today, Monday March 4, 2024.
A breakdown of the 358 athletes showed that the athletics game has the largest contingent heading to Ghana with 50 of them competing in track and field events.
Also, 40 athletes were listed for football game in both men and female teams.
Other games like Hockey, Arm Wrestling, Badminton have 32, 15 and 12 athletes respectively.
Also beach volleyball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, handball, judo and karate have 4, 11, 4, 15, 12 and 14 athletes respectively.
Basketball 3×3, judo, mixed martial arts, rugby, scrabble, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling have 4, 4, 16, 8, 4, 10, 14, 8, 4, 24, 12 and 14 players respectively.
