The Kano State Director of Sport Alh. Bashari Ahmed Maizare has said that the non availability of 11 athletes belonging to the state that were screened out of the 6th edition of the National Youths Games in Ilorin will not deter the dream of the team of winning medal.
The 11 athletes that screened out were from badminton-1, swimming-1, athletic-8 and Judo-1.
Maizare who doubles as the Chairman of state sports director told our reporter that state’s dream is to claim less than 10 medals in some the games it known for.
“Actually our areas are traditional sport , swimming, rubgy and the rest of them. In the areas, our target is that we assume to get not less than 10 medals. And in other areas, definitely, Kano will become one number.” He said.
Also, he saluted the screening committee for a thorough screening, saying that since inception, this screening had a new twist of turn.
“So some of my athletes were screened out but I am not so bad because the screening committee tried their best and did a very good job because since the beginning of the past edition in 2013, we then see the screening which is visible this year. I am satisfied.” He added.
He emphasized that the state will win medals out of the 19 sports that the state registered for.
“All our participation in the 19 sports we enter for Kano, so we are very sure no problem for Kano and come victorious.” He said.
