Channels Int’l Kid Cup: Kwara, Rivers secure final tickets as Lagos, Benin Republic settle for third place tie

Team Kwara and Rivers states have qualified for the finals of the 11 edition of the Channels International Kids Cup as team Lagos and Benin Republic will slug it out in the third place tie.

The first semi final encounter beteeen Kwara state and Benin Republic ended 2-1 at the Agege Stadium in favor of the latter who came back from a goal down to edge their opponents who got the lead in the 26 minutes through Moundachiron Afdol but the Kwarans were resilience to secure the final slot, thanks to Olugbon Awol and Olatunji Issa.

Also it was a display of artistic footballing prowess between Rivers state and Lagos state as they both fought hard but a lone goal in the 16 minutes through Kingdom Tamumo sealed their victory.

Speaking with the gaffer of Rivers state after the match, coach Ndubuisi Ihejirika, he thanked God for the victory, assuring that his boy will lift the cup.

“I thank God, the boys were up and doing  to achieve their aims. 

“I believe we are going to lift the cup. I have been doing this, 2014 at Airtel rising stars. I came with Rivers state teams and we won the championship in season four  at Yaba Tech. I believe in Lagos state is a state I have luck and I believe my state will win the trophy.” 

He commended the effort of organisers to bring out the talents in children.

“Channels they are trying. It is a period for you to celebrate children.”
Also, the gaffer for Lagos state, coach Adeboyejo Elijah said their opponents were stronger than his wards, adding that his boys will win the third place fixture against Benin Republic.

“One thing I notice is that my boys did very well but I think the other team were stronger than them talikig about the strength that is the only thing.

“Sure since they have lost this semi final, we are going to win the third position.
The kids are exposed, they have more stories to tell their mates while they go back to school.” He said.

The final and the third place match have been slated to hold on the Monday, 27 May, 2019 at the Campus Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, Lagos.
