The sporting atmosphere at Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) is set to come alive as eight teams battle for glory in the maiden edition of the Dean of Student’s Affairs (DSA) Cup, kicking off on November 21 at the Dr. Philip Yaba Sports Centre.
The week-long competition, which runs until November 27, is organised by the Yabatech Students’ Union Government (YASUG) in honour of the Dean of Student’s Affairs, Alhaji Alaba Olalekan Shakurudeen.

According to the 45th YASUG Sports Director, Comrade Odenike Qaudri, the competition is more than just another student sporting event — it is designed to promote unity, inclusion, and a vibrant campus sports culture.
“It is in honour of our daddy, the Dean of Student’s Affairs, Alhaji Alaba Olalekan Shakurudeen,” Qaudri said. “This is the first-ever competition of its kind in Yabatech, and its special because it brings together both male and female athletes from all schools within the college.”

Comrade Qaudri noted that the DSA’s Cup aims to encourage participation across gender lines while celebrating the college’s diverse student community.
“This competition is not an ordinary one,” he added. “It’s an opportunity for students to connect, showcase talent, and express school pride through sports.”
As Yabatech prepares for an exciting week of football action, expectations are high that the maiden DSA’s Cup will become an annual highlight of campus life.
