2023 African Games: Over 5000 athletes to compete in 23 sports

As the 2023 African Games draw closer, over 5000 elite athletes and coaches from fifty-five African countries will gather to compete in twenty-three selected Sport codes with seven demonstration Sport.

The 2023 African Games is scheduled to hold from March 8 till 23, 2024.

Out of the 23 selected sport codes, eight of them are Olympics-qualifying sports. They include athletics, badminton, cycling, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon and wrestling.

While the non-Olympics qualifier are arm wrestling, basketball (3×3), beach volleyball, boxing, chess, cricket, football, handball, hockey, judo, karate-do, rugby, taekwondo, volleyball and weightlifting.

The seven demonstration includes E-sports, mixed martial art, pickleball, sambo, scrabble and teqball.

The African Games which promises to be a platform to showcase talent, determination, and sportsmanship avails athletes to grab the tickets in a bid to feature at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Out of the eights Olympic-qualifying sports, checks by Sportxvibe.com.ng shows that Nigeria’s athletes to contest for the Olympics tickets in athletics, badminton, tennis.
