The Lagos State University (LASU) blazers defeated Lead City University 2-1 as UI Pioneers settled for draw against ABUAD Stars in the opening match of the Higher Institution Football League (HIFL) group B played at New Stadium, University of Ibadan.
ABUAD Stars player Abiola Moshood opened the scoring for his team after he converted a spot kick.
But after exchanges of play between the teams, UI Pioneers player Isaiah Stephen restored the parity as he slotted the ball behind the net.
The match ended 1-1.
In the second match between LASU blazers and LCU gladiators, the latter took the lead after their captain Abiodun Adegbite converted a spot kick.
But the LASU blazers blazed fiercely after Okunmo Sulaimon header at the death of the first half levelled the score.
After resumption of the second half, LASU blazers doubled the lead after their opponent’s goalkeeper made an error.
LCU gladiators efforts to equalise were to no avail as they lost to LASU blazers.
